T-shirt of the Day Award for Memorial Day!

31 May

It’s not exactly an obscure holiday, but Memorial Day is most definitely a holiday worthy of a t-shirt of the day! And there were so many excellent ones!

Memorial Day is a United States federal holiday, celebrated on the last Monday of May, to commemorate our soldiers who died while in military service. Formerly known as Decoration Day, families often go to graveyards to decorate the graves of their loved ones.

T-shirt of the Day Award for Benny Goodman’s Birthday!

30 May

Big band, swing dance, clarinets, and Benny Goodman. Here’s a few tees that do mean a thing, because they’ve got that swing!

Benjamin David “Benny” Goodman (May 30, 1909 – June 13, 1986), also known as the “King of Swing,” was a clarinetist and bandleader during the era when jazz was coming into the height of its popularity. “It is clear in retrospect that the Swing Era had been waiting to happen, but it was Goodman and his band that touched it off,” said Donald Clarke, author of the The Penguin Encyclopedia of Popular Music. Goodman was the first jazz bandleader to perform in Carnegie Hall, an event described by critic Bruce Eder as “the single most important jazz or popular music concert in history.” In a time of strict segregation, Goodman also led one of the first racially integrated bands.
