T-Shirt of the Day for World Breastfeeding Week!

2 Aug

It’s World Breastfeeding Week! According to Surgeon General Dr. Regina M. Benjamin, “World Breastfeeding Week provides an opportunity to highlight the benefits of breastfeeding and to encourage everyone to support mothers who want to breastfeed.” This news segment from CBS reports that if 90% of mothers breastfed for just six months, it could save 865 infant lives, not to mention also saving 13 billion dollars.

If you’re considering breastfeeding or new to it, here’s a word of advice from a veteran breastfeeder (I nursed my four babies for a total of twelve years … and that’s not counting the double years for tandem nursing!): a regular t-shirt is much easier and more discreet (not to mention a lot less expensive) than a specialty nursing shirt with slits or flaps or other fancy access. A raised t-shirt gives perfectly adequate access for baby, and covers the top part of your breast just fine. Most people won’t ever notice that you are breastfeeding at all!

I’ll see you in a funny t-shirt!
