“Punk for a Day” Day is on the books but the meaning is unclear. Be a punk (as in a jerk) for a day? Listen to punk rock today? Dress like a punk rocker? I guess it’s your choice, so go ahead … make your own punk day!

T-Shirt of the Day Award for Barbershop Music Appreciation Day

13 Jul

July 13, 1945, was the birthdate of the Sweet Adelines, a female barbershop quartet. A group of ladies in Tulsa, Oklahoma, led by Edna Mae Anderson, got together to sing some barbershop. They were all wives to men who were in the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America, and the Sweet Adelines were born, now an international singing group with thousands of members worldwide.

Here is one of my favorite barbershop quartets, the Acoustix, singing John Phillips Sousa’s famous march, Stars and Stripes Forever. Yes, it actually does have lyrics, and I promise you’ll love them!

T-Shirt of the Day Award for “If I Had a Hammer” Grammy!

On 15 May 1963, the wildly popular folk trio Peter, Paul, and Mary won a Grammy for their hit song “If I Had a Hammer.” Here are some fun and funny hammer shirts and a few 60s music shirts to commemorate their win!

The folk trio Peter, Paul, and Mary was made up of Peter Yarrow, Paul Stookey, and Mary Travers (who died in 2009). They were one of the biggest acts of the 1960s music scene. Here they are singing their Grammy-winning “If I Had a Hammer.”
