Happy Birthday to Thomas Alva Edison!
Thomas Edison was born on February 11, 1847, in Ohio. He was so distracted in school, his teacher called him “addled” and his mother removed him from school after only three months to homeschool him. (Today, I guess he would have been put on Ritalin, eh?) Edison was married twice and had six children, three with his first wife who died after only thirteen years of marriage, and three with his second wife, who outlived him. Edison invented the phonograph and the electric lightbulb, and had a war of patents with Nikola Tesla over AC/DC (alternating current vs. direct current). Edison died of complications of diabetes in 1931 at age 84. Edison held over 1,000 patents in the United States and well over 2,300 worldwide.
