Vive la revolucion! It’s Bastille Day in France!
Bastille Day marks, more or less, the beginning of the French Revolution that moved to beheading the French aristocracy courtesy of Madame Guillotine and ended up with Napoleon Bonaparte trying to rule the world and meeting his defeat at Waterloo. The citizens of Paris, afraid that the royal military was about to attack them, decided to arm themselves by breaking into the Bastille, a military prison where large stores of weaponry were kept. Though most of the guard were massacred, the action held little military significance; despite this, the storming of the Bastille almost immediately became a symbol for the revolution as a whole.
