Is there anyone who doesn’t know today is July 4 and the Independence Day of the USA?
July 4 is not the day the US won independence from Great Britain, but the day independence was declared by the signing of the Declaration of Independence. On June 28, 1776, Thomas Jefferson submitted his draft of the Declaration of Independence. Independence was declared on July 2, but the Declaration was officially adopted by Congress on July 4. Most historians believe it was not actually signed until August.
In an exceedingly strange coincidence of history, the only two signers of the Declaration of Independence who later served as presidents of the United States, Thomas Jefferson and John Adams, both died on the 50th anniversary of Independence Day: July 4, 1826.
