Every year since 1969, on the third Saturday of June, the 49 regular residents of Spivey’s Corner, North Carolina, are overrun by 5,000 to 10,000 visitors who are there for the day-long extravaganza known as the National Hollerin’ Contest. What is a Hollerin’ Contest? It is exactly what it sounds like!
